Midnight Express Legend Dennis Condrey Passes Away At Age 74

The wrestling world is mourning the loss of Dennis Condrey, a founding member of the legendary The Midnight Express, who has passed away at the age of 74.

Condrey was widely respected as one of the pioneers of modern tag team wrestling. Alongside Bobby Eaton and managed by Jim Cornette, the Midnight Express became one of the most influential tag teams in wrestling history. Their matches helped define tag team storytelling and raised the standard for teamwork inside the ring.

Condrey began his wrestling career in 1973 and competed across multiple major territories during the territorial era. Over the decades, he made appearances in promotions including American Wrestling Association, National Wrestling Alliance, Georgia Championship Wrestling, Mid-South Wrestling, and Jim Crockett Promotions.

After nearly four decades in the business, Condrey officially retired from professional wrestling in 2011, leaving behind a legacy that influenced generations of tag team performers who followed.

In the wake of his passing, Dax Harwood of FTR shared a GoFundMe campaign to help Condrey’s family with funeral expenses. Harwood explained that he created the fundraiser with permission from Condrey’s wife, Theresa, in an effort to ease the financial burden during this difficult time.

Harwood reflected on Condrey’s legacy both inside and outside the ring, describing him as not only one of the greatest tag team wrestlers of all time but also an exceptional person in his personal life.

“Dennis Condrey is one half of the greatest tag team of all time, The Midnight Express. For years they brought excitement and entertainment to millions of people. However, as great as he was in the ring, it doesn’t hold a candle to the human being he was. A sweet, God-fearing man who LOVED his wife Theresa.”

Harwood also explained that the fundraiser was created out of respect and admiration, not at the request of the family.

“With her permission, I’ve opened this GoFund me to help with funeral expenses and bills that she now has to take on her own. She didn’t ask for this. I asked, in his honor, could I do this for him.”

He continued by encouraging fans who appreciated Condrey’s contributions to wrestling to support the family if they were able.

“If Dennis Condrey and the Midnight Express ever brought any amount of joy to your life, and you’re able to help, please do. If not, it’s absolutely ok! Please send all your thoughts and prayers to Theresa Condrey in her time of need. God speed, ‘Loverboy’ Dennis Condrey.”

Condrey’s passing marks the loss of a true pioneer whose influence shaped tag team wrestling for decades. His work with the Midnight Express remains a benchmark for tag team excellence, and his legacy continues to be studied and respected by wrestlers and fans alike.
