Milton boys hockey continues hot start, hands Weymouth first loss

Milton boys hockey has continued its ascent under head coach Nick Bligh.

With a 2-1 win over Weymouth (2-1) Saturday night, Milton earned its first 3-0 start under Bligh who is entering his third year in charge.

So far this season, like last year, Milton’s defense is punishing opponents.

The Wildcats have surrendered just one goal through their first three games this season, beating Wellesley 4-0 in the season opener, and Walpole 2-0 last time out.

On Saturday, facing off with another red hot team in Weymouth, Milton again locked down.

On the offensive end, Peter Buckley kicked things off for the Wildcats with his first period goal. In the second, Weymouth was able to get on the board but Milton swung right back with a goal from Ryan O’Neil.

Entering the third period up 2-1, Bligh’s squad clamped down for the final 15 minutes to secure their undefeated start to the year and give Weymouth its first loss.

Next, Milton will get a break from conference action when it hosts Canton on Wednesday, Dec. 31 at noon.

For Weymouth, a chance for a rebound will come a lot sooner. On Christmas Eve Weymouth will travel to Hingham for a noon puck drop.
