On the fifth and final day of the second Test, Bangladeshi spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz said on Monday that his team will prioritize safety above aggression, unlike India.
On the final day on Tuesday, Bangladesh trail India by 26 runs with eight wickets remaining.
India’s batsmen were brilliant in destroying Bangladesh’s first innings total and even gaining a comfortable 52-run advantage.
“Considering the circumstances, our safety will come first. “We aim to bat for as long as possible, as it will benefit both the team and ourselves,” Miraz stated during the post-game press conference.
It takes a lot of time to play to win. We have to take 10 wickets once more if we bat and set a target. It’s crucial that we prioritize our safety over winning right now, he continued.
Miraz, who claimed four wickets in India’s opening session, claimed that the way Rohit Sharma and the other batsmen came out swinging was a little unsettling.
“The ball was staying low; the wicket seemed a little slow. There was extra bounce at times. They arrived with an aggressive mindset, which presented some challenges for us. In T20s and ODIs, there is a predetermined duration. After making an effort to remove them, we’ll see what transpires the next day.
He bemoaned the fact that Mominul Haque, who amassed an undefeated century but was left stranded at one end, was not assisted by Bangladeshi hitters.
In Test cricket, the opening innings are crucial. Mominul bhai did a great job playing, but we were unable to provide him the assistance he required.
“The outcome of the game might have been different if we had been able to support him better.”
On the last day, Miraz hoped they would salvage the match.
“With Test cricket, anything can happen. We still haven’t given up entirely. We have performed well in similar situations and have won numerous games in the past. We still have the chance to seize it. It’s a good wicket.
It will be difficult, but I think it will work out well for us if we can establish a strong working relationship and bat sensibly during a session. Tomorrow is yet in our future. Let’s hold off on thinking negatively for now.
He acknowledged that it was a first for him to lose so much time during an exam and yet be able to come up with a clear winner.
“Test cricket encompasses a multitude of settings. Prior to this match, two days had passed without rain. This is definitely the first time that this has happened to me. We have learned a lot from this match, and there is undoubtedly much more to learn.
