Rana Impresses on Debut with Key Wickets

Harshit Rana, the 22-year-old fast bowler from Delhi, is making his international debut in the ongoing match. He received his maiden Test cap from senior spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Day 1. On Friday, November 22, Rana claimed his first Test wicket by dismissing Travis Head. He was bowled for 11 runs.

On Saturday morning, Rana added to his tally by dismissing Nathan Lyon, who was caught by KL Rahul at slip. However, Harshit Rana completed his redemption arc by dismissing Mitchell Starc. This was his third wicket of the innings.

Jasprit Bumrah’s Stellar Performance

While Rana has shone brightly, India’s stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah has been the standout bowler. He took four wickets on Day 1 and completed his five-wicket haul by dismissing Alex Carey with the first ball of his spell on Day 2. With this achievement, Bumrah reached 50 wickets in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle, becoming the first pacer and third Indian overall to achieve this milestone in a single WTC edition.

Bumrah’s wickets included key Australian batsmen such as Nathan McSweeney, Usman Khawaja, and Steve Smith. He also claimed the wicket of Australian captain Pat Cummins before stumps on Day 1.
