Australian cricket star Pat Cummins is set to make a significant move to Major League Cricket (MLC), joining the San Francisco Unicorns midway through their season. This marks Cummins’ second stint in an overseas T20 league, following his successful tenure in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Cummins, known for his prowess as a fast bowler and all-rounder, last played in Australia’s Big Bash League back in the 2018-19 season due to his international commitments. His addition to the Unicorns comes as the team seeks to improve their season performance, having won only one of their three games so far.
The 28-year-old cricketer has an impressive T20 record, boasting 172 wickets from 151 matches with an average of 26.66 and an economy rate of 8.11. Cummins recently showcased his skill by achieving back-to-back hat-tricks at the T20 World Cup and leading Sunrisers Hyderabad to an IPL final.
Meanwhile, the MLC has seen other notable player movements. West Indies all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford will miss the season due to a family bereavement, while South African pacer Ottneil Baartman replaces Gerald Coetzee at Texas Super Kings due to injury. Baartman, renowned for his death bowling abilities, brings with him a track record of 107 wickets in 76 T20 matches.
In another switch, Lungi Ngidi has taken over from Wayne Parnell at Seattle Orcas, with Ngidi making a comeback from injury that sidelined him from the IPL but saw him back in form during the T20 World Cup.
Cummins’ arrival at the San Francisco Unicorns is expected to bolster their lineup significantly, despite his limited recent appearances in domestic leagues due to his international commitments.
