Mo Bobat Talks Plans A to D

Royal Challengers Bengaluru director of cricket Mo Bobat outlines the team’s multi-plan approach for the IPL 2025 mega auction, ensuring flexibility and strategic decision-making.

RCB’s Strategic Focus Ahead of IPL 2025 Auction

The IPL 2025 mega auction on November 24-25 in Jeddah has teams preparing strategic plans.

RCB, led by Mo Bobat, is preparing for the two-day event with 574 players competing for 204 spots.

“As you get closer to the auction, you start thinking a little bit more there around some of the auction dynamics that play out. Knowing the set orders and where some of the players might come up has a big impact on how you plan and what strategy you have,” said Bobat in a franchise statement issued to IANS on Saturday.

“Setting some cost parameters to what you might want to spend on different roles and different players is a really exciting part of it as well. You’re trying to prepare yourself for as many eventualities as possible.”

“There’s no absolute certainty that you can take into an auction, but you have probably a plan A, a plan B, a plan C, and a plan D. And you want to try and make sure that you’re capable of reacting at the moment, being flexible, and making the decisions that you want to bring it to life,” he added.

RCB retained Kohli, Patidar, Dayal, with ₹83 crore purse and three RTM cards to reclaim capped players.

Flexible Budgeting and Key Targets

Bobat emphasized careful budgeting for roles, ensuring the team remains prepared for all possible auction scenarios and outcomes.

“Cost parameters for players are an exciting yet challenging part. Flexibility is crucial to react in real time,” he explained.

RCB’s approach reflects their understanding of auction dynamics, which demand quick decisions and strategic pivots.

Retaining star players like Kohli provides stability, but their focus will also be on securing a mix of experience and emerging talent to enhance squad depth.

While RCB’s retention strategy signals trust in their core, the team has identified key areas to strengthen.

RCB plans to balance marquee players with value picks, using Bobat’s multiplan strategy to tackle unexpected auction challenges effectively.

The IPL 2025 auction brings high-stakes excitement, with RCB’s strategic planning reflecting their focus on a successful campaign.
