Former Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Yousuf has announced his resignation from his role as the selector of the Pakistan men’s cricket team. Yousuf, 50, took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on September 29, 2024, to share his decision, citing personal reasons behind his departure. His tenure as a selector began in March 2024, and he played a pivotal role in choosing the squad for several significant series and tournaments.
Yousuf’s Contribution to Pakistan Cricket
Mohammad Yousuf, one of Pakistan’s finest batters, enjoyed a distinguished international career spanning 12 years, during which he played 90 Test matches, 288 ODIs, and 3 T20Is.Â
His expertise and experience were key to his appointment as a selector earlier this year. One of his primary responsibilities was selecting Pakistan’s squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup.Â
Despite the team’s disappointing performance in the tournament, Yousuf remained with the PCB and was retained in the revamped selection committee.
Recently, Yousuf was instrumental in picking the team for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh and the upcoming Test series against England, scheduled to start in October 2024.Â

However, Yousuf has decided to step down before the commencement of the England series.
Challenges Ahead for Pakistan Cricket
Pakistan is set to face England in a crucial three-match Test series starting in October.Â
Pakistan’s Test team, under the leadership of Shan Masood, has struggled in recent matches, suffering back-to-back defeats against Bangladesh.Â
The upcoming series will be critical as Pakistan looks to break their five-match losing streak in Test cricket.
England, led by Ben Stokes, is coming into the series with high stakes, as they must win to keep their hopes alive for the World Test Championship.Â
The team is scheduled to land in Pakistan next week to begin their preparations for the must-win series.
