Mohammedan Sporting Triumphs in Charity Match for Landslide Victims

The I-League champions, Mohammedan Sporting Club, secured a 2-1 victory over the Super League Kerala All-Star XI in a charity match held at the Payyanad Stadium in Manjeri on August 30, 2024. The event, organized by the All India Football Federation (AIFF), aimed to raise funds for the victims of the recent landslides in Wayanad, with proceeds directed to the Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund (CMDRF).

AIFF President Shri Kalyan Chaubey, AIFF Vice President Mr. NA Haris, AIFF Secretary General Mr. Anilkumar, and Kerala Football Association President Mr. Navas Meeran were present at the match. Shri Chaubey announced during half-time that an expert team would be assigned by AIFF to renovate the Payyanad Stadium, and praised both teams for their performances and the fans for their spirited support.

Mohammedan Sporting took the lead in the 21st minute with a goal by Lalremsanga, but All-Star XI quickly equalized four minutes later through a penalty converted by Kervens Belfort. The winning goal for Mohammedan Sporting came in the second half, courtesy of Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kadiri. Indian football legend IM Vijayan also made an appearance as a substitute for the All-Star XI, adding to the significance of the event.
