Mohsin Naqvi to be named as next ACC president after Jay Shah’s departure

The chief of Pakistan’s Cricket Board, Mohsin Naqvi, could become the next leader of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). This could happen once the current leader, Jay Shah from India’s Cricket Board, steps down. A recent news article mentioned that Naqvi might get the position because the ACC follows a system where leaders take turns. Jay Shah has been in the role for three years in a row, and he recently got an extra year in January.

A person told PTI that during a meeting of the ACC members, they talked about choosing Naqvi as the new president after following the rules. This means that the PCB president will be in charge of some big upcoming events, like the Asia Cup 2025, which will be a T20I tournament in India, and the ODI version of it in Bangladesh in 2027. This will make Naqvi’s job even busier, as he will also be responsible for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, which will be held in Pakistan.

The person said, “When the ACC meets later this year, they will say that Naqvi will be the next president for two years… When Jay Shah leaves, the PCB chief will take his place.”

India and Pakistan, who are long-time rivals, have had some tense moments recently. Pakistan has expressed worries and shown a willingness asking India to visit Pakistan for the upcoming Champions’ Trophy.

Meanwhile, Pakistan went to India for the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup. Despite several meetings between BCCI President Roger Binny and Naqvi, there is still a lot of uncertainty about whether India will take part in the Champions Trophy.
