More Backstage News On WWE’s Decision To Go With Seth Rollins Vs. Gunther At WrestleMania 42

WWE recently announced Seth Rollins vs. Gunther for WrestleMania 42 but there appears to be conflicting reports on when this match was locked down.

On today’s WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, it was reported that the match was only finalized the week before the March 30 episode of Raw, which is when Gunther attacked Rollins and set up the match. The report added that the decision to go with this match was not a unanimous decision as there were some people within creative who would have preferred to see Rollins wrap up his storyline with Paul Heyman and The Vision. Those that argued for the match wanted to find a way to get Gunther on the card. For what it’s worth, Heyman is not expected to be in Gunther’s corner for the match.

Dave Meltzer recently reported that Rollins vs. Gunther was something WWE had planned internally for several weeks and was not a result of Bron Breakker’s status as many have speculated. Meltzer went as far as to report that Breakker is actually cleared and WWE wanted to delay his program with Rollins in order to give it a proper TV buildup.

John Pollock of Post Wrestling also reported recently that a rundown of WrestleMania matches that circulated last month also had Rollins vs. Gunther listed as one of the matches which would further imply that this was something WWE at the very least considered going back many weeks.
