With two of the most explosive flyweights on the planet taking the octagon, UFC: Mexico City lived up to all it’s expectations as a night to remember. The 125-pound division treated us with a landscape-changing bout as #6 Brandon Moreno faced off against Lone’er Kavanagh in an arms-race of mixed martial arts, and the two did not disappoint once the clock started.

In a showstopping performance, Lone’er Kavanagh took the night by it’s horns, earning a unanimous decision victory. Now back into the win column for the first time after a knockout loss, the newest flyweight contender drew some serious attention across social media from his fellow fighters.

Terrance McKinney was first to crack a joke about Charles Johnson now holding knockout victories over two of the hottest prospects in the entire sport. Perhaps McKinney is onto something, Joshua Van has been on six-fight win streak since suffering defeat to Johnson and if any of Lone’er Kavanagh’s future fights are similar to the performance he had tonight, I bet we see Kavanagh fighting for the belt sooner than later.

Top Flyweight contender Manel Kape chimed in, victory lapping a pre-fight prediction of the victorious Kavanagh. Though what’s really interesting is the potential matchup between Kape and Kavanagh; if booked in the future, the two would create the most explosive striking match at 125-pounds possible.

Following such a flashy performance from the 26-year-old Lone’er Kavanagh, the UFC is bound to present many opportunities for the rising star’s next fight. The English striker will slot in at around #6 in the new rankings, with prospective opponents as the surging #5 Kyoji Horiguchi, veteran #4 Brandon Royval, and #2 Manel Kape. At 10-1, Lone’er Kavanagh is one to watch make more waves across the fight world in the coming months.
