Moses Itauma ordered for world title shot

Lawrence Okolie is looking to return in the coming months with Moses Itauma a likely opponent.

Okolie vs Itauma was ordered at the most recent WBC convention in Thailand.

‘The Sauce’ was last in action five months ago in the chief support bout to Oleksandr Usyk’s rematch with Daniel Dubois

He faced Kevin Lerena and picked up a wide points win over 10 rounds.

Okolie tore his bicep early in the fight, holding him back significantly, an injury he has had surgery to fix.

Now looking to return in the new year, Okolie ranked number one with the WBC has been granted a final eliminator clash with 20-year-old Moses Itauma.

This clash will be to set up a fight with current WBC world champion, Usyk who spoke at the convention and confirmed his intentions to return to the sport and defend his belts.

Itauma, ranked number four with the WBC returns to the ring in January where he faces the seasoned Jermaine Franklin.

Franklin has taken both Anthony Joshua & Dillian Whyte the distance and he is expected to give Itauma rounds and experience.

Itauma’s promoter Warren spoke on Itauma’s upcoming fight when speaking at the press conference.

“We are delighted with what we have put together across 2025 in tandem with our new broadcast partner DAZN, but we have the scope to go bigger and further in 2026, which we will do and make it a landmark year for the sport.

“This show will also effectively celebrate my 45th year in the professional business and I believe this card certainly does justice to the occasion and I am very happy to have our heavyweight prodigy Moses topping the bill in another perfect test of his unquestionable credentials against a very tough American in Jermaine Franklin.”

Despite the clash with Okolie set to be a final eliminator, just a few weeks ago Usyk claimed he will not fight Itauma when speaking to Ready to fight.

“No, I won’t fight Itauma,

“He’s young, always teasing me.

“And he said himself he doesn’t hit grandpas.

“I can’t say who exactly, because negotiations are ongoing.

“I’d be lying if I gave you a name.”
