West Indians are prominent as the king of T20 cricket. The kind of aggression, bashing, and attack T20 format needs, the Caribbean team has it all. They experienced the shortest format of the game first time in 2006 against New Zealand and it ended as a draw. So far, WI has played 180 T20Is and came out victorious on 74 occasions, including the grand final of the 2012 and 2016 T20 World Cup. The island nation has produced some great hitters over the years to remember in the format, hence have a look at the players with the most T20 runs for West Indies.Â
Nicholas Pooran
The best hard-hitter of the current era, Nicholas Pooran has climbed to the top position on the most T20 runs for the West Indies tally since his debut in 2016. The aggressive left-hand wicket-keeper batsman has notched up 2195 runs in 98 games at a decent strike rate of 138.39. Although his strike rate can not do justice to this match-winning ability, at times he can win a game from any bad situation with the help of his insane bashing. Pooran’s most of the runs came against India’s quality bowling attack.
Chris GayleÂ
Probably the best left-hand batsman this version of the game has ever seen, Chris Gayle tops the chart for the most T20 runs for West Indies. This man knew no defense, beginning to bash the bowler from the very first delivery. In 79 games, the Southpaw amassed 1899 runs at a healthy strike rate of 137.50. Gayle’s highest score of 117 came in just 57 balls against South Africa in Johannesburg in the 1st match of the 2007 T20 WC.Â
Marlon SamuelsÂ
Former top-order batsman, Marlon Samuels has scored the 3rd most T20 runs for West Indies. From 2007-2018, he represented the Men in Maroon in 67 games and made 1611 runs at a decent average of 29.29, including 10 fifties. Samuels played as an anchor player and was outstanding in the finals of the T20 World Cup. First, he played a composed knock of 78 off 56 balls against Sri Lanka in the 2012 WC final and then scored a magnificent 81 in 66 balls against England in the 2016 T20 WC final to help his team to lift the T20 World Cup for the 2nd time.Â
Kieron Pollard
The man with one of the strongest hands in T20 cricket, Kieron Pollard gets 4th place on the honorable chart of most T20 runs for West Indies. Having played the most (101) games for the team in the format, the muscle man aggregated 1569 runs, striking at an impressive rate of 135.14. Along with destructive batting, Pollard was a handy bowler and took stunners in the outfield.Â
Lendl SimmonsÂ
Lendl Simmons was one of the mainstays in his playing days and occupies the 5th spot on this list. With his classic and determined batting, he could hold one end and attack as per requirements, mustering 1527 runs at a good strike rate of 120.80. His excellent career saw him hit 9 fifties, including the best of rampage 91* against Ireland in 2020.
