Key Insights

England’s Ian Botham scored a century and took a five-wicket haul in the same Test five times in his career, the most by a player. Four of his instances ended up in wins for England, again the most by a player in Tests.

The record for the best bowling figure after scoring a century in the same Test also belongs to Ian Botham, as he picked up 8 for 34 after his 108 in the match against Pakistan.

Botham has also taken the best match haul of 13 for 106 after hammering 114 against India in the 1980 Golden Jubilee Test in Mumbai.

Botham, Imran Khan (Pakistan), and Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh) are the three players to score a hundred and bag a ten-wicket haul in the same Test match.

Denis Atkinson (West Indies), Imran, Mushtaq Mohammad (Pakistan vs WI), Garry Sobers (West Indies vs ENG), and Ben Stokes (England) achieved this double as captains once.

Denis and Mushtaq (vs NZ) are the two players with a double century and a five-for in the same Test match.

Denis Atkinson’s 219 is the second-highest score by a West Indies batter against Australia in a home Test match. Overall, this is the fourth-highest Test score by a Caribbean batter against Australia.

New Zealand’s Bruce Taylor is the only one to score a century and pick up a fifer on Test debut – against India in March 1965.

Australia’s Charles Kelleway and India’s Vinoo Mankad attained this feat while scoring their centuries as openers.
