MotoGP Moves to the Streets of Adelaide

With Carlos Ezpeleta highlighting the strategic changes brought about by the transition from Bridgepoint’s ownership to Liberty Media for the newly renamed MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group, the site of 2027’s Australian Grand Prix could be an indicator of where the series sees itself going.

It was announced this week that the race will move from its current location at the Phillip Island circuit to a street circuit in Adelaide. The Government of South Australia and MotoGP Sports Entertainment presented the project for the street circuit on Thursday, with the event led by South Australia premier Peter Malinauskas and Ezpeleta.

Hosting the world’s first MotoGP race on a fully urban circuit will give Adelaide a unique opportunity, one that will undoubtedly attract visitors from interstate and overseas,” added the Labor leader, who estimates MotoGP could generate an annual economic impact of around €130million for the region.”

Like it or lump it, the future of motorsport, from the grassroots up, is going to be impacted by decisions made by legislators and politicians over the years to come. That is going to make for uncertain times in the years ahead.”
