MTB Legend Sam Hill Opens Up About Life After Racing

Sam Hill is a name that almost anyone my age would recognize. The 8-time World Downhill MTB champion and flat pedal enthusiast is an icon in the sport of mountain biking, and has ridden for some of the most legendary brands in the industry. From Specialized Bicycles to the late Iron Horse and the now revamped Nukeproof, Hill has always been a topic of conversation. After Nukeproof fell on hard times in 2024, everyone expected the native of Western Australia to throw in the towel and retire. Thankfully, all our expectations were squashed when he announced that he wasn’t quite done with the sport.

This documentary takes a look at Sam Hill’s life in Western Australia as he and his wife raise three young boys. It showcases memorabilia and keepsakes from his years of racing at the highest level. From bikes to helmets, kits, and race plates, seeing all the palmares in one place is just proof that Sam Hill is and always will be a figure in the sport, whether he’s racing or not.

Sam Hill is set up with Mondraker Bikes this week for Red Bull Hardline Tasmania, and is sporting a pretty trick-looking Summum for the event. Hill has also announced his partnership with Shimano for 2026 for all his shifting and braking needs. Sam can be seen in a number of Vlogs posted by all the riders who are already getting laps in on the course, and damn, it’s good to see him back in a race kit and still rocking the flats.
