Ajinkya Rahane will lead a star-studded Mumbai side in the tournament as they look to defend their title.
An India and Indian Premier League (IPL) star has made himself available for Mumbai in the upcoming Ranji Trophy season. While the player is currently part of India’s T20I series against Bangladesh, he will play for his domestic side from their second game.
Suryakumar Yadav, the captain of India’s T20I team, has informed the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) that he will be available for his team from Mumbai’s second-round game against Maharashtra at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy BKC in Mumbai. “He has informed the MCA that he will be part of the Ranji Trophy team which will play against Maharashtra,” a source in the MCA confirmed to The Indian Express.
Currently, he is leading the Indian team in the ongoing Bangladesh series, where India have gained an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match T20I series. Hence, he will not play Mumbai’s first game against Baroda in Vadodara, starting October 11.

However, Mumbai will play their second fixture on October 18 against Maharashtra, and Suryakumar is expected to be part of that series. The last game of the Bangladesh series will take place on Wednesday (October 12) in Hyderabad.
Suryakumar Yadav currently out of the Test side
Suryakumar Yadav is currently not preferred for the longest format and has been out of the Test side since 2023. He has played only one Test game in his career during the Border Gavaskar Trophy last year in Nagpur.
However, he could only score 8 runs in his only innings and was dropped from the squad. He also played in the Duleep Trophy fixture but didn’t impress much, for he was out on a low score.
He has decided to play in the Ranji Trophy to reclaim his place in the Test side after being out of the side for more than a year. Suryakumar has often tried playing as much red-ball cricket as possible in a bid to get his place in the Test team.
Mumbai will start their campaign against Baroda tomorrow in Vadodara. Ajinkya Rahane will lead a star-studded Mumbai side in the tournament as they look to defend their title.
