According to an official, police have planned extensive security measures for the Indian cricket team’s road show on Thursday night in Mumbai, where a sizable crowd is anticipated to see the parade. The squad won the T20 World Cup.
After arriving back in the nation on Thursday morning, the winning squad will participate in an open bus road show and an awards ceremony at south Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.
According to the official on Wednesday, the triumph procession will start at Nariman Point and end at Wankhede Stadium between 5 and 7 p.m.
Police are taking every care to prevent any untoward incident because a significant number of people are expected to converge for the event, he said.
According to the source, there is enough protection in place along Marine Drive between Wankhede Stadium and Nariman Point.
Despite a persistent drizzle and heightened security measures that kept them apart from their heroes, throngs of supporters gathered outside the airport in the nation’s capital to greet the Indian cricket team that won the T20 World Cup. The team had traveled from Barbados to New Delhi on a specially scheduled charter flight.
The departure of the Indian squad from Barbados was delayed due to Hurricane Beryl.
“The team will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 11 am at his residence. After this, the team will fly to Mumbai, where a ceremony has been organised,” BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla told PTI.
“There will be a road show from Nariman Point in an open bus and later we will honour and felicitate the players with the prize money of Rs 125 crore as announced,” he added.
The squad on Saturday won the country its second T20 world title, ending an 11-year wait for an ICC trophy. India’s previous ICC title was in 2013 when it won the Champions Trophy under Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
