Musheer Khan, the promising young Mumbai cricketer and brother of Indian batter Sarfaraz Khan, has suffered a serious neck injury following a car accident near Lucknow.
Details of the accident
The incident occurred while Musheer was traveling from Azamgarh to Lucknow with his father Naushad Khan, as he was set to participate in the upcoming Irani Cup match against the Rest of India.
The accident reportedly involved their vehicle flipping multiple times on the road, resulting in significant injuries for the 19-year-old. While initial reports suggest that Musheer may have sustained a fracture, others indicate that the injury is primarily focused on his neck.
According to a media advisory, “Musheer is currently admitted to a hospital in Lucknow, where he remains stable, conscious, and well-oriented. He has sustained a fracture in the neck region and is under close observation. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) medical teams are closely monitoring his progress to ensure he receives the best possible care.
“Once Musheer is deemed medically fit for travel, he will be flown to Mumbai for further evaluation and additional medical treatment. The timeline for his recovery will be determined following these assessments,” the release added.

Impact on Musheer’s cricketing career
Musheer’s injury comes as a major setback for him and the Mumbai team, as he was expected to make a notable impact in the tournament. His recent performances have been impressive; he scored 716 runs in nine First-Class matches at an average of 51.14, including three centuries. He also shone in the recent Duleep Trophy, where he made headlines with a remarkable debut knock of 181 for India B against India A.
Given the timing of his injury, it is likely that Musheer will also be sidelined for the initial matches of the Ranji Trophy season beginning on October 11. As of now, the Mumbai Cricket Association are yet to announce any replacement for him in the squad.
This unfortunate incident highlights not only Musheer’s rising career but also the unpredictability and risks associated with travel.
