This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite opened with a wild scene, as Toni Storm was found unconscious backstage just hours before her scheduled match.
Storm was set to face Marina Shafir in a No Holds Barred rematch following Storm’s victory at AEW Revolution 2026. However, those plans were thrown into doubt before the show even got underway.
AEW released footage on social media showing Renee Paquette approaching Storm’s locker room when a loud crash was suddenly heard. Luther was seen visibly shaken outside. When the door was opened, Storm was discovered laid out on the floor, unresponsive, with no sign of who attacked her.
Mina Shirakawa was by Storm’s side, screaming in shock and anger. Grabbing a microphone, she issued a warning to the unknown assailant. She said,
“Whoever did this, I will find you and I will end you. Marina, if it was you, this is your last day on earth. Because tonight, I will fight.”
Shafir stands out as a prime suspect, as she had plenty of motivation after her loss at Revolution 2026. Taking Storm out ahead of the rematch could give her a major advantage — or prevent the match from happening altogether.
Another name being heavily discussed is Ronda Rousey, who made a surprise appearance following Storm’s win at Revolution and confronted her. Although Storm accepted the challenge, officials intervened before things escalated.
There’s also the possibility that this wasn’t a solo attack. Given their history of working together, Rousey and Shafir could have teamed up for a brutal two-on-one assault.
