Nat Sciver-Brunt scored the first century in Women’s Premier League history as Mumbai Indians recorded a 15 run win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
The England captain struck 100 not out from 57 balls, hitting 16 fours and one six, as Mumbai posted 199 for four from 20 overs. England team mate Lauren Bell took two for 21 for Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Mumbai then restricted Royal Challengers Bengaluru to 184 for nine despite a score of 90 from 50 balls by Richa Ghosh. Hayley Matthews, who earlier made 56, led the bowling with 3 for 10.
Sciver Brunt’s innings moved past the previous highest scores in the competition, which stood at 99 not out by Georgia Voll and 99 by Sophie Devine.
“It was a special moment to get that milestone but, more importantly, the runs on the board for the team,” said Sciver Brunt, aged 33.
“I was just reacting to the balls that were given to me. Tactically, some bowlers might be more of your strength than others.”
Sciver-Brunt ranks among the highest paid players in the league, earning between £320,000 and £330,000, and has represented Mumbai since the competition’s first season in 2023.
