Nathan Lyon and Mitchell Starc pick this sensation as the Indian future Superstar

The leading Australian cricketers such as Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon and Josh Hazlewood have indicated that Yashasvi Jaiswal, the Indian prodigy, is on his way to being one of the biggest names in the game globally. He has earned himself a name after displaying exceptional performances since his debut. The 22-year-old left-handed batsman has taken off quickly through the ranks of international cricket appearing as a future star.

In July 2023, Jaiswal made a stunning Test debut against the West Indies where he scored 171 runs. Earlier this year he achieved a record-breaking series against England with an overall score of 712 runs from five matches, making him only the second Indian cricketer in history to accumulate over 700 runs in one Test series thus placing him among elite players.

Moreover, this gifted Mumbai cricketer has also been shining in T20 format cricket. In just 23 T20I appearances so far, Jaiswal has scored 723 runs and thus establishing himself as an all-format player.

Star Sports Tamil on X (formerly Twitter) posted a video that asked some of Australia’s best players to name who they think will be the next Indian cricket superstar, and all named Jaiswal. The list included Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon, and Alex Carey.

“Jaiswal could be one of those special players who come once in a generation,” confidently said Smith while others like Starc added that “probably Jaiswal would be considered the next great star”. This was also echoed by Carey, Hazlewood and Lyon who each mentioned Jaiswal as India’s next big thing.

“Jaiswal appears to be an excellent fitment for all forms of the game,” remarked Hazlewood stressing on how versatile he is across formats.

Australian all-rounder Cameron Green and batter Travis Head had also made their voices heard regarding the shining future star for India and that was Shubman Gill. Green lauded Gill’s technique, as well as the immense potential he possesses, while head said he makes the bowling appear slow and is in control over both fast and spin.

While Jaiswal is yet to play Australia in Tests or ODIs, Shubman Gill has already had vital innings against Australian bowlers. Gill made his debut in 2020 during the famous Boxing Day Test held at Melbourne, where he has aggregated 272 runs in seven ODIs against them.

India’s calendar for cricket is filled with major games such as two-test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand starting this September; But nearly every eye is set on upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy which will happen on November 22nd in Perth. The five-match Test series between India and Australia is likely to flare up one of cricket’s fiercest rivalries again after several years away from public view. It presents an opportunity for India to once again prove their superiority in Australian soil by clinching their third successive test series down under.
