Australian spin bowler Nathan Lyon has singled out Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Rishabh Pant as the key players to watch in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series.
The five-match series between India and Australia starts in Australia on November 22, as part of the World Test Championship.
In addition to these key players, Lyon has cautioned that the Indian team has a very strong lineup, which will make it extremely difficult for the Australian team.
“Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Rishabh Pant are likely to be the three key players. But there are also (Yashasvi) Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, (Ravindra) Jadeja, and possibly five more players who could make an impact, though I’m not sure who they are,” he said to Star Sports.
However, Lyon believed that if the Australian bowlers performed well over a long period, it would give them an advantage.
“They have a very strong team, so it will be a tough challenge. As I mentioned, if our bowling group can perform well for a long time, hopefully, we can put pressure on their defense,” he added.
The Australians haven’t won the championship since their last series win in 2014-15 on their home ground.
Since then, the Indians have won the championship four times in a row, twice at home and twice away, which is a record for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Additionally, they are the only Asian team to win a Test series in Australia, and they’ve done it more than once.
Overall, India is the most successful team in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, having won it 10 times, including one time when they kept the title.
