NBA Announces Victor Wembanyama Milestone During Warriors Game

Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs are seeking their 10th straight win on Wednesday night against a severely shorthanded Golden State Warriors side. The Spurs are the hottest team in the NBA right now, and this has been thanks in large part to Wembanyama’s dominant display.

Heading into Thursday’s matchup, the 22-year-old has produced averages of 24.5 points on 50.4% shooting, 11.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.1 steals and a league-best 3.1 blocks in 29.3 minutes per contest. Wembanyama is also knocking down 1.9 triples per game on a 35.1% clip.

San Antonio entered Thursday’s contest with a 57-18 record. They were 2.5 games behind the Oklahoma City Thunder, as the Spurs chase the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference.

Wembanyama recently expressed his desire to leave no doubt in the Most Valuable Player race this season. He has emerged as the frontrunner toward the latter part of the campaign, and the 7-foot-4 big man is doing everything he can to end the season on a high.

Wembanyama kept his foot on the gas on Wednesday night. He turned in another strong performance in the first half against Golden State, registering a 27-point, 13-rebound double-double.

This prompted an announcement from the NBA.

“WEMBY WENT OFF IN THE FIRST HALF! He’s the first Spurs player in the PxP era (1997-98) to record 25+ PTS and 10+ REB in a half 🤯” the league posted on X.

Wembanyama and Co. are looking to close this one out, but the undermanned Warriors are not yet ready to give in. As of writing, the Spurs are up 84-67 with five minutes left in the third quarter.
