NBA Insider Reveals Harsh Reality Check About Warriors Forward Jonathan Kuminga’s Trade Market

The Jonathan Kuminga era with the Golden State Warriors is playing out like The Simpsons: Just end it already! However, sadly, not only is it unclear when this will end, but it’s also possible that it won’t until the end of 2027. Even if there is an end date, that will still be a while from now.

The Warriors are already on top of this, as they are very much counting down the days until Kuminga becomes trade-eligible on January 15. However, playing this game for as long as they have has also cratered Kumninga’s value.

The NBA Player Guessing Game allows you to guess the NBA player based on clues about their team, division, height, jersey number, points, and experience.

What Is Jonathan Kuminga’s Trade Value at the Moment?

When the Warriors can officially scour the market for Kuminga, they won’t find much because his trade value is pretty much nil at this point. NBC Sports Bay Area’s Monte Poole revealed the only team that has expressed interest in him.

“Of the other 29 teams in the NBA, only the Sacramento Kings have shown interest in acquiring Kuminga, according to league sources,” Poole wrote. “That the Kings are alone on this island makes a statement on its own – use your imagination – but Sacramento general manager Scott Perry is eager to shed high-salaried veterans and begin a rebuild.

“The other 28 teams have shown no more than tepid interest, sources say, leaving the market for Kuminga even cooler now than it was last July, when he was a restricted free agent hoping for an offer sheet that never came.”

It’s not surprising that the Kings are interested in Kuminga, as they had interest in him during the offseason. However, part of why they are the only ones who want him is that the Warriors have destroyed any remaining value he had before.

Kuminga’s numbers are not only down, as he’s averaging 11.8 points compared to 15.3 last season, but he hasn’t played since December 18. Even though he’s shown his talent, any interested suitor (in Kuminga’s case, all one of them) will not give up much at all for someone who is not even playing.

And what would the Kings give up to get him? They probably won’t include a first-rounder. Do the Warriors want Malik Monk (also not having a great season and on a less team-friendly deal), DeMar DeRozan (never been a good defender and might take shots away from Stephen Curry), or Dennis Schröder (they tried that last year, and he was a big yikes)?

This situation is so complicated, and it didn’t have to be this way if they had traded Kuminga when his value was at its highest.
