Dwyane Wade almost had a “Final Destination” moment in Japan, but fortunately for him, he had his wife by his side. The Miami Heat legend has previously expressed how much he admires his wife Gabrielle Union’s intelligence, and that quality was on display when Wade became so distracted that he nearly injured himself.
The couple were on vacation in Japan, a part of their lives that the three-time champion generously shares with fans through his vlogs. They traveled to Osaka and other Japanese cities, interacting with locals and getting to know the culture.
One moment almost ruined everything. Fortunately, Ms. Wade’s quick thinking saved the day. The couple were riding a boat, and Wade was focused on something else. As they approached a low-lying bridge, the NBA legend nearly hit his head on it.
Union was alert enough to prevent the accident, and they ended up laughing it off.
“I saved your life!” Union said.

Fans and friends were just as stunned by the incident.
“Wife’s got your back. 🫶🏽,” one commenter said.
“Higher powers acted right there. That was a special moment for real, for that to be captured on camera is craziness,” wrote another.
Another one wrote how lucky Wade is with his wife.
“Men wouldn’t know what to do without us 🤣🤣💯”.
Wade and Union have been together since 2008 and got married in 2014. The hoops star has never been shy in saying how his wife sets him right.
“My wife’s so beautiful, and so when she was talking, I wasn’t really listening,” he said during an appearance at the Today with Jenna & Friends in March 2025.
“My apologies. I was just kind of looking at her eyes and her lips and all those things.”
Together, they have one daughter named Kaavia James and Union also serve as the stepmother to Wade’s three other kids before they got together.
