New Rift in Indian Cricket As Shubman Gill Ignores Hardik’s Handshake at Toss During IPL 2025

Mumbai Indians beat Gujarat Titans by 20 runs in the IPL 2025 Eliminator to knock the 2022 champions out of the tournament and book a spot in Qualifier 2 against Punjab Kings.

However, even before a ball was bowled, the buzz on social media started with a tense moment at the toss. After Hardik Pandya won the toss, GT skipper Shubman Gill began to walk off, as is usually done.

As Hardik stepped forward to announce his decision, he extended his hand towards Gill for a handshake. But Gill seemingly ignored or missed the gesture, which led to an awkward few seconds between the two. Fans on social media were quick to react, calling it an “ego clash” between the two captains.

MI Knock GT Out, To Face PBKS in Qualifier 2

Coming to the match, Mumbai Indians batted first after winning the toss and posted a strong total of 228 runs on the board. Rohit Sharma led the charge with a fluent knock of 81 runs, supported by cameos from other MI batters.

In response, Gujarat Titans had a tough ask and things got harder when they lost skipper Shubman Gill early. Sai Sudharsan once again stood tall for GT with a fighting knock, but couldn’t take them over the line. Needing 24 runs in the final over, GT managed just 3, as Richard Gleeson held his nerve to take MI home.

For MI, Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah were impressive with the ball, picking up important wickets to derail GT’s chase.

What’s Next?

With this win, Mumbai Indians will now face Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2 on June 1 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The winner of that match will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2025 Final.

Meanwhile, it’s the end of the road for Gujarat Titans, who despite topping the table for most of the season, bow out of the tournament without a title this year.
