The Ospreys have secured one of Welsh rugby’s best prospects
The Ospreys have secured the services of Wales backrower Morgan Morse on a new contract.
Ospreys fans are despondent after the clubs two star players – Jac Morgan and Dewi Lake – this morning confirmed they will be joining Gloucester next season.
It has come as a hammer blow for the Ospreys but they have hit back by announcing a new contract for Morse.
The 20-year-old is one of the best prospects in the Welsh game and made his senior Wales debut against the All Blacks last month.
“Morsey has a bright career ahead of him and is part of a strong core of young talent we have within the team, so it’s a great moment for the club to have him re-sign with us,” said Ospreys head coach Mark Jones.
“He is a player that is capable of some real X-factor moments and to be a successful side, you need players like him in your squad.
“We place a high priority on developing talent from within our region, and Morsey is evidence of that.
“We’re excited by what is to come from him.”
Morse has long been considered one of the finest prospects in the European game.
But he became a household name in Welsh rugby circles when he scored an outrageous individual try from inside his own half when the Ospreys beat Cardiff in terrible conditions at the Brewery Field on New Year’s Day 2024.
“Signing a new deal with the Ospreys is a proud moment for me and my family,” said Morse.
“This team means a lot to me and I’m really happy to be continuing at the club where my professional career began.
“There’s a great group of boys and staff here who have all played an important part in my development.
“I’m looking forward to building on that going forward and helping the team in whatever way I can.”
Despite the uncertainty engulfing Welsh rugby as the WRU looks to reduce the number of professional teams from four to three the governing body says it will guarantee any new contracts to Welsh-qualified players.
