New Zealand announces a strong 15-member squad for the upcoming Tests against Afghanistan and Sri Lanka

New Zealand have announced their strong 15-member squad for their upcoming Test tour of the subcontinent, which includes a one-off Test against Afghanistan followed by a two-match series against Sri Lanka. The Black Caps will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing T20 World Cup campaign and face a stern test in the spin-friendly conditions of the subcontinent

Will O’Rourke and Ben Sears included in New Zealand squad

The New Zealand squad, led by experienced seamer Tim Southee, strikes a balance between youth and experience. The inclusion of promising pacers Will O’Rourke and Ben Sears signals a desire to strengthen the pace bowling department.

However, given the nature of the pitches, spin is expected to be the dominant force. With five specialist spin options in the squad, including the versatile Michael Bracewell, the Black Caps are well-prepared to tackle the challenges posed by the slow, turning tracks.

Michael Bracewell returns

New Zealand have recalled off-spinner Bracewell, who has been out of action for the past 18 months due to Achilles and finger injuries. He joins a spin group that includes left-arm spinners Mitchell Santner, Ajaz Patel, and Rachin Ravindra, along with off-spinner Glenn Phillips.

“It’s always great when young guys force their way into squads through performance and I know Will and Ben are really looking forward to the challenges of Test cricket in the sub-continent. Michael’s had to show plenty of resilience to rehabilitate his injuries and force his way back into the BLACK CAPS across all three formats. His all-round skills, and ability to take the ball away from the left-hander make him a great asset, especially on what we expect will be turning wickets in India and Sri Lanka,” said New Zealand head coach Gary Stead.
