‘Newcastle United star to be England first choice for sure’ Micky Quinn

Newcastle United star Lewis Hall is going to be first choice for England, Micky Quinn has zero doubt.

The former NUFC number nine declaring: “This kid is the next England left-back, I am telling you now.”

Last season, Lewis Hall was first choice for Newcastle United and along with Sandro Tonali and Alexander Isak, one of the contenders for United’s player of the season.

Then only weeks before the Carabao Cup final, the lifelong Newcastle fan picked up a season ending injury at, ironically, Anfield.

Speaking to Talksport, Micky Quinn recalling: “Lewis Hall got injured, I think it was spring time last year, and I was touting him for the England left-back…he has grown in confidence, he is over his injury.”

Lewis Hall ended up on the losing side on Tuesday night but despite the defeat to Manchester City, he was yet again the best player on the pitch.

Micky Quinn insisting: “He could play midfield as well, because he’s skilful, he can beat players, he can cross the ball, he can defend. He is a brilliant left-back and he’s the future of Newcastle United, along with Lewis Miley, who’s only 19. And this kid can play any position, he’s got such a good footballing brain.”

Lewis Hall did indeed play in midfield before previously, before becoming a left-back as his fledgling career developed.

I always laugh when the national media talk about the likes of Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly as potentially securing the England left-back spot long-term. Lewis Hall is ridiculously good and the Arsenal player isn’t fit to tie his bootlaces.

Reality is that Tino Livarmento is the second best young England left-back but he is destined for the other side of the pitch, which is his natural position.

After the defeat to Manchester City, Eddie Howe was also asked about Lewis Hall, who has only recently came back into the team after injury.

The NUFC Head Coach stating: “We are delighted he is back fit, such an important player…he brings a real attacking drive from the left-back position. A really technically excellent player and I think he is improving all the time, so we are pleased he is back with us.”

Only injury will prevent Lewis Hall being on the plane to the World Cup finals in the summer.

Thomas Tuchel knows all about him, having been Chelsea manager when Hall was coming through the ranks.

For now though, it is all about Newcastle United and Eddie Howe making clear how vital Lewis Hall is to United in the coming weeks and months: “We need to try and keep him fit if we can…he has got a big responsibility to try and play as many games as he can and help the team, which I know he will do…he has got a huge future ahead of him.”
