Flames Nation: Darren Dreger, when asked about Calgary Flames forward Blake Coleman.
Host: “What’s Blake’s market like, and do you see a triage of wingers, or is he at the top of that checking winner list?
Dreger: “Yeah, he’d be right near the top, if he’s not at the top, for sure. And and I think that the reflection on that would be the expected return, whatever that is, it’s going to be a significant add for Calgary if they make that trade.
Somebody close to Coleman last night said, ‘Not sure. We haven’t heard a whole lot.’
He’s just a good all-around dude. Like he, as we know, he’s happy to stay, but if it’s in the best interest of the Calgary Flames, moving forward, to trade him, he’s one of those guys who’ll go, ‘Yeah, trade me. I’m happy to help. I hope it’s a team that’s a playoff team, and I’ve got a shot to continue to play and to win, but that’s up to you guys.’
And that’s not just the good guy, part of him. Again, you guys know that roster better than I do. If even as early as next year, you’re shepherding in young players and you’re building on a younger nucleus, don’t you need really good, competitive guys to help teach these young players what it’s like to be a game in and game out good Pro.
