The New Rangers were told ‘No,’ to asks for Will Smith and Ryan Leonard

James Murphy of RG Media: The San Jose Sharks and Washington Capitals have shown interest in New York Rangers forward Artemi Panarin.

A source said on the weekend that the Sharks were asked about Will Smith by the Rangers, and were told ‘No.’ The Capitals were asked about Ryan Leonard, and were told ‘No.’

James Murphy of RG Media: An executive source on Tuesday night on the Florida Panthers push for New York Rangers forward Artemi Panarin.

“They’re still right there. I keep hearing the Lightning are making a late push too, get this! The Wild too!”

The Panthers are nine points out of the wild-card, but Panarin would like join his good friend Sergei Bobrovsky.

The source added that you can’t count Bill Zito out.

“He finds ways to make it work cap-wise, and even if they got Panarin and didn’t make the playoffs, they can bounce back next season when they’re healthier, and they’ll have Panarin to help them do that.”

Former Panthers AGM Steve Werier laid out on PuckPedia how a trade could work out. Paul Theofanous is the agent for Bobrovsky and Panarin. The Panthers would likely need to include Mackie Samoskevich. Two sources said forward Eetu Luostarinen, one year left at $3 million, could be included as well. The Panthers don’t own a first-round pick until 2028

Marco D’Amico of RG Media: Teams have contacted the Columbus Blue Jackets about Boone Jenner, Charlie Coyle, and Dmitri Voronkov. Mason Marchment has looked good in Columbus and they might look to extend him. Danton Heinen and Erik Gudbranson could be rental players.

Voronkov has a year left at $4.175 million, and despite closing in on 20 goals, is falling down the lineup.

“Voronkov is a name I’ve heard a few times being of interest,” said a source on the subject. “Columbus had the opportunity to lock him up and went the bridge route. Now he’s playing on the fourth line despite trending for 25-plus goals. Something’s got to give.”
