The New York Rangers think they can get more for Vincent Trocheck later, but the center market could get crowded this offseason
Vincent Z. Mercogliano of The Athletic: New York Rangers GM Chris Drury didn’t budge from his asking price for Vincent Trocheck, and Minnesota Wild GM Bill Guerin wouldn’t come up. Multiple sources said the asking price was unreasonably high.
The Wild weren’t the only ones interested. The Boston Bruins, Carolina Hurricanes, Detroit Red Wings and Pittsburgh Penguins had some interest.
It’s believed the Wild offered propect Charlie Stramel, and likely a first-round pick and another asset.

Drury was wanting someone with top-six potential, and instead of taking the best offer at the deadline, he held on to Trocheck in hope of getting a better offer later. With the salary cap going up next season, and handcuffed by the CBA tweaks for this season, more teams may be able to enter the bidding.
There is also the risk of other center who could be put up for trade: Robert Thomas (Blues), Elias Pettersson (Canucks), Nico Hischier (Devils), Ryan O’Reilly (Predators), and maybe Auston Matthews (Maple Leafs). It does seem unlikely that Trocheck’s value will get any higher between now and the offseason. Next trade deadline, the value likely even lower.
Alexis Lafreniere, and Braden Schneider will be back on the trade block. What will veterans Adam Fox, Igor Shesterkin, and Mika Zibanejad be thinking?
