NHL Rumors: Pittsburgh Penguins, and the New Jersey Devils
What I can tell you is, as of , they haven’t had those talks yet, but they’re still planning to. And we know that Geno Malkin wants to play. He wants to keep going. He feels he can, and he’s open to a one-year extension with the Pittsburgh Penguins. I believe the Pens are open to that as well, based on how this season has gone.
Obviously, the health of Sidney Crosby affects both Canada and the Pittsburgh Penguins for the rest of their season. So, you know, everybody there is keeping close tabs on what the heck’s going on. But based on how the penguins have played this year, I think there’s an openness to look at that.
It’s really going to come down to what type of deal makes the most sense. Is it one year, 5 million? Is it 6.5 he’s making now? Is it somewhere around that? That’s what they have to determine. That’s what they have to figure out.
But the plan remains in place for the Penguins and Malkin’s camp to have a conversation before they get back to game action next week, to determine, can they agree on an extension or and they agree towards a pathway, and they’ll finalize things once the season is done. One way or another, they’re going to have a lot of clarity on Mark and future going into next week once games resume.
