The Pittsburgh Penguins have a couple of deadline pieces they could move
Dan Kingerski of Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Pittsburgh Penguins forward Anthony Mantha is pacing towards 50 points this season. He has a $2.5 million salary cap hit but a $250,000 bonus for every 10 games can push him up to $4.8 million.
The Penguins could decide to extend him or look to move him. His play is only increasing his trade value. GM Kyle Dubas could also decide to hold on to Mantha as the Penguins push for a playoff and let him walk for nothing after the season.
The recent acquisition of Yegor Chinakhov could push for more ice time, making Mantha or possibly Rickard Rakell expendable on the left side.
NHL Injuries: Sabres, Oilers, Kings, Wild, Rangers, Blues, Canucks, and More
Brett Kulak has played well beside Kris Letang since being acquired from the Edmonton Oilers. Some thought he might be immediately flipped, which obviously didn’t happen. He’s increasing his trade value.
The Philadelphia Flyers aren’t really sellers, but they could move Rasmus Ristolainen
Anthony Di Marco of Daily Faceoff: The Philadelphia Flyers are in the playoff hunt and want to continue their push for a spot. They won’t be looking to make a big deadline acquisition. They aren’t in a selling position either, but could consider moving some players if it benefits them long-term.
A source said they’d consider trading defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen, but they aren’t shopping the 31-year old. He’s been on the third pair, but averaging over 20 minutes a game. The price would have to be right to move him.
A source said that price could be similar to what the Montreal Canadiens got from the Florida Panthers back in 2022, a first-round pick, a fourth and a prospect.
Ristolainen has another year left at $5.1 million. Have heard the Flyers might be willing to retain salary, but that would come at a cost. The Flyers have one retention slot left.
NHL Rumors: Vancouver Canucks, and the Winnipeg Jets
The Flyers could look at add a fourth-line center by the deadline, to upgrade on Rodrigo Albos.
