Host: “What are you hearing about Toronto’s trade deadline market right now?

Pagnotta: “Yeah, well, I mean, you know, they’re pretty active. The Maple Leafs are listing on a variety of different fronts here, on a number of their players. And also throwing out a few lines to see if there are ways for them to improve moving forward, going into next season and on.

But a number of their players that are generating interest. They have a number of pending UFAs, three guys up in particular up front in Scott Laughton, Bobby McMann and Calle Jarnkrok.

But they also have some other pieces that have generated interest so far this season, Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Brandon Carlo on the back end. Mathias Maccelli. Nick Robertson who was a scratch tonight. Max Domi as well. A number of other players that they’re willing to listen on, Steven Lorentz and so on.

NHL Rumors: Buffalo Sabres, Montreal Canadiens, and Trade Deadline Tiers

But this team seems to be fairly open and understanding that, where they are in the standings, they’ve lost three straight. It’s looking like it’s going to be pretty bleak in terms of making the postseason. They’re starting to shift their focus towards improving next year and on.

And if they can retain some assets for some assets, for some of these players. That’s what they’d like to do, while also kind of fishing to see if they can make those improvements and adjustments to the lineup that focus on more of a long-term type of scenario.

But also, I should mention, with Laughton and McMann, specifically, they’re going back and forth on contract extensions. Still seems like there’s a pretty sizable gap on both of those fronts, and that might result in both those guys getting moved by Friday’s deadline.”
