NHL Rumors: What will the Vancouver Canucks do with Elias Pettersson?

Donnie & Dhali: Elliotte Friedman, when asked if he expects the Vancouver Canucks to trade Elias Pettersson this offseason.

Rick Dhaliwal: “You guys had Mitch Marner. You went through the whole thing. Vancouver’s got Elias Pettersson; it never ends. Do you see a scenario this summer where he gets traded?”

Friedman: “You know, I’ve been on two shows today. I got the Pettersson question on both of them.”

Dhaliwal: “Yeah, you have to.”

Friedman: “Yeah. You know, I think that. I think the really big challenge with that Rick, is that, I think the really big challenge there is that the Canucks don’t want to take money.”

Dhaliwal: “Yes. Exactly.”

Friedman: “And, and they were asked again about it this year, and they said no. And, you know, right now is values down.

So, you know, I’m not convinced that the offers that they were getting on Pettersson now. Or as far as they went, I don’t know that anything really got too far down the road. But as far as it went, I don’t think they would be getting the same offers now on Pettersson that they maybe would have a year ago or at the beginning of the year.

I have no doubt that when the season’s over, they’ll sit down, they’ll talk to them again. They’ll see where it is. But the honest, best answer, Rick might simply be, have a great summer, come back. And I mean, if, if everybody really wants to move on, the best way to do it is for Pettersson to come back, play great. And they go that way, right?

Because I just heard the one thing I did here is that even some teams that like Pettersson, their offers may not have been as strong because he just hasn’t played well.”

Don Taylor: “You know, the problem with that Elliotte is that, you know, from all reports, they had that conversation last summer.”

Dhaliwal: “Yeah, we went through this last year.”

Friedman: “You know, but, you know, I understand that Don. Look like I’ve been in situations before where I’m not 100% happy, where I’ve worked and or I wasn’t happy with my situation at work. And you know, you have two choices. You can kind of coast through life like that, or you can say, I’m going to do what I can to make it better.

And, you know, I just think that if you’re the Canucks, you have, you have two choices right now: you can try to trade them at whatever percentage on the dollar, or you can say, if we really want to make this better, you have to do that too.”
