What’s going on with Nazem Kadri? Are teams waiting for the center market for shake out?
NHL Media: David Pagnotta, when asked about Calgary Flames forward Nazem Kadri. Things have quieted down this week, but talks aren’t dead. Are teams waiting for the Vincent Trocheck shoe to fall? Maybe Robert Thomas? What’s going on with Naz?

“Well, Colorado circled back on Kadri before they made the Nic Roy acquisition earlier. So there were some conversations involved there, with respect to Naz’s availability. Three more years on his contract, $7 million cap hit, some teams are curious, would Calgary be willing to retain a little bit on that deal?
I think Minnesota checked in at one point. There are some people who told me that they might be on his no-trade, because he does have a limited no-trade as well.
NHL Rumors: Avs, Wings, Mammoth, Canucks, Predators, Ducks, Kraken, and Blues
Montreal Canadiens are another team that have expressed interest in Kadri before and throughout different parts of the season, I should say. So, nobody would be surprised if that’s something that gets to the finish line on that front, and I believe that that’s a destination that he would be open to.
But you’re right with respect to Trocheck. I think a lot of people are trying to figure out, okay, when does the first domino at the center position fall? I mentioned Brayden Schenn earlier. That’s, they’ve got a certain price in St. Louis, and if it’s not met, they’re totally fine holding on to him.
TSN: Pierre LeBrun on Nazem Kadri. Teams are leary of the three years left at $7 million.
“Nazm Qadri, the same thing. I mean, Colorado going to Nicholas Roy pretty much ended the Kadri conversation. And Colorado really did talk to Calgary a lot about Nazem Kadri.
But the problem is, they couldn’t get Calgary to retain money on those three years left on Kadri’s deal. And I get it from both sides. But it’s going to be really hard to trade Kadri’s contract if the Flames aren’t retaining money.
NHL Rumors: St. Louis Blues, and the Boston Bruins
Montreal Canadians have stayed in touch with the Flames on Nazem Kadri. They’re not taking him at full $7 million a year. I’m telling you, it has to be Calgary retaining, and they may not want to. There’s just three more years left on that deal.
