Nick Ball vs Brandon Figueroa – Big Fight Preview & Predictions

Nick Ball defends his WBA featherweight world title against former two-weight world champion, Brandon Figueroa in Liverpool on Saturday.

Frank Warren’s Queensberry promote Ball vs Figueroa from the M&S Bank Arena and DAZN broadcast the bout live worldwide.

Ball (23-0-1, 13 KOs) suffered the one blemish on his record in a stalemate with Rey Vargas for the WBC featherweight crown in March 2024, in a fight many believed the Liverpudlian had done enough to win.

The 28-year-old rebounded by ripping away the WBA crown he defends this weekend with a split decision victory over Raymond Ford almost three months later.

‘The Wrecking’ has made three successful defences, his last a unanimous decision success over Sam Goodman in Riyadh in August.

Figueroa (26-2-1, 19 KOs) has previously held WBC world honours at both super bantamweight and featherweight.

The 29-year-old American has lost twice in his career, with Stephen Fulton relieving him of his belts on both occasions.

‘The Heartbreaker’ bounced back from his most recent defeat to Fulton by claiming a unanimous decision win over Joet Gonzalez in July.

Prediction: Figueroa represents a stern test for Ball, but the home favourite should have enough to take a decision win.

Cain clashes with Gonzalez

Andrew Cain looks to remain on course for a maiden world title shot when he faces Alejandro Jair Gonzalez.

Cain (14-1, 12 KOs) scored arguably a career-best victory last time out against former world champion, Charlie Edwards.

Mexico’s Gonzalez (19-6-3, 11 KOs) is ranked one place behind Cain in the WBC bantamweight rankings at four, with the bout a final eliminator for the vacant title.

Prediction: Cain is a man in form and he can overcome Gonzalez on points.

Remaining Undercard

Big punching Jack Turner (13-0, 12 KOs) can become just the second man to stop Juan Carlos Martinez Urbina (10-3-1, 4 KOs) in their WBA International super flyweight title clash.

Brad Strand (13-2, 4 KOs) can continue his resurgence following defeat to Ionut Baluta by outpointing Ruben Lezama Gonzalez (12-6, 11 KOs) at super bantamweight.

Middleweight prospect, Stephen Clarke (8-0, 1 KO) should see off Lewis Howells (3-5) on points, while Paddy Lacey (12-0, 2 KOs) can win by the same method against Jack Swallow (3-3-1, 1 KO) also at 160 pounds.

21-year-old welterweight, Lucas Szeto-Biswana (4-0, 1 KO) can remain perfect with a decision win over Liam Macmillan (2-4), while super featherweight prospect, William Birchall (3-0, 3 KOs) should halt Caine Singh (4-8-2).

Middleweight prospect, Luke Turner (1-0) should outpoint Jensen Irving (5-34-2) and Luke Prior (1-0) can do the same against Ryan Frost (3-10).

Hassan Ishaq (2-0, 2 KOs) has won his first two professional bouts by stoppage, but is likely to go the distance for the first time against Leonardo Baez (5-16) at super bantamweight.

Sam Norris makes his professional debut and should win on points over four rounds against Jack England (1-13-1) at super featherweight.

Georgian super lightweight, Lasha Guruli (2-0, 1 KO) returns against an opponent still to be confirmed.
