The 2024 Women’s Tour de France has come to an end. The competition witnessed some intense battles but Kasia Niewiadoma clinched the exciting victory. Kasia Niewiadoma secured victory in the 2024 Women’s Tour de France with a record-breaking margin of just four seconds, marking the closest finish ever in the history of both the women’s and men’s races.
A Dramatic Climb to Victory
In a gripping finale that unfolded over 21 hairpin turns on a steep climb, Kasia Niewiadoma battled fiercely against her main rivals. At one point, it appeared her chances were slipping away.
As the leaders ascended towards the ski station, five riders remained in contention for the win. With no teammates to support her, Niewiadoma was under immense pressure, especially as the top three in the general classification were separated by just 10 seconds.
A Thrilling Finish
Amid swirling mountain mist, Niewiadoma pursued hard over the Glandon pass closing the 1-minute-15-second gap to the race lead on the long descent to Allemont. Niewiadoma had to rely solely on her own efforts, even when Dutch contender Pauliena Rooijakkers refused to work with her. Vollering, frustrated by Rooijakkers’ lack of cooperation, even pushed her fellow rider. Despite this, Vollering’s lead over Niewiadoma narrowed to 44 seconds by the bottom of the Alpe.
In the end, the closest Tour de France in history was decided in the final few meters of the 950-kilometer race. Vollering claimed a prestigious stage win. But Niewiadoma, with relentless determination, crossed the finish line in tears, having secured the overall victory. She awaited confirmation of her achievement before celebrating with her bike, overwhelmed by the significance of her win.
Kasia Niewiadoma’s Words:
After the thrilling win, Niewiadoma shared her words. She said, “I lost four seconds, so that’s nothing. Four seconds seem to be magical now.”
Later he added, “Throughout my whole career there were so many times I missed out on victories. I feel like this week was perfect for me and my team. To be able to win big races, you need everything on your side.”
