Nigel Farage’s visit and use of Portman Road and its facilities leads to anger from Ipswich Town fans across social media.
On Monday, he booked onto a stadium tour and since uploaded photos of the Reform UK leader leader holding an Ipswich Town shirt, sat in the press conference room and the dressing room.
One user of the TWTD supporters’ forum, said that they felt “disgusted and embarrassed” after seeing Reform being allowed to use the club’s stadium. ahead of his rally at Trinity Park, home of the Suffolk Show.
TWTD report that Farage’s visiting Portman Road yesterday ‘had no official involvement from the club’ and ‘understand a private tour of Portman Road, which is available to the public via the club website, was booked by a representative of Reform but with no official invite from Town or any event or meeting with anyone from the club’s management or ownership’.
They add: “In addition to their visits to Portman Road and Trinity Park, the Reform group, in Suffolk as part of their campaigning for the local elections in May, also spent time in Felixstowe where a walkabout was abandoned due to protests.”

No Official Town Involvement in Farage Visit – Reform UK leader Nigel Farage visiting Portman Road yesterday had no official involvement from the club, TWTD understands. #itfc #efl #championship #LocalElections #Mayelections

They added that it was “a slap in the face to all decent supporters, our players, staff and history as a fairly multicultural club.”
Others however state that Reform had booked the facilities commercially rather than being invited by the club, leaving Ipswich Town in a difficult position.
“Accept the booking, and they piss off some support, or cancel it and be sure that Reform will be all over the media about cancel culture,” one user said.
As mentioned, Nigel Farage’s visit and use of Portman Road leads to anger from Ipswich Town fans…
@itfc_louis2: When he scores he makes the ipswich sing, Nigel on the wing , Nigel Nigel on the wing
@SkintyalFia: So you’re telling me… Farage just happened to rock up to Ipswich town, walk in the door un-questioned, walked around the stadium, went into the printing room and made his own shirt, then left? no involvement my ass 👍
@maddogman17: @IpswichTown speechless. What are you doing you idiots?
@Pbgrange: @IpswichTown – I was about to buy the third and away kits. You’ve had that – I’ll send the money to a more deserving non-league team. Fire whoever said this was a good idea. Immediately. Utterly, utterly shameful.
@adambeaumont31: So when he rocked up, NO ONE involved had the cognitive thinking to perhaps alert someone higher up that this could be quite controversial…? Complicit or not, it’s a terrible look.
@TashThijssen: But coincidentally had a changing room full of printed shirts on each peg? #itfc
@ADClay27: Then why’s there a photo of him in the dressing room with at least 3 ‘Farage 10’ shirts around him then? Not sure that’s part of a normal stadium tour #itfc
@TravelsFooty: You do not represent our club
@LDHMarketing: Venues usually have a clause in bookings for room/events about the extent to which the person hiring can use their logo/branding. Either ITFC have failed to do this, or Reform have taken advantage and overstepped the mark. Not a good look for ITFC.
@ben_jamin_jacob: The irony of him sat in front of the @ITFCFoundation logo, who’s main aim, in their words is to build an empowered, inspired, and inclusive community to be proud of, using the power of Ipswich Town to make positive changes to the lives of those in our community.
@adambeaumont31:
“Keep politics out of football*!!!!!!”
*unless it’s my politics in which case it’s perfectly fine and anyone who doesn’t like it is a snowflake
#itfc
@NW777777777: Fuck off out of our club
@S_BaileyITFC: The #ITFC TL always goes on a mad one during an international break and it’s only just started 🤪🤣
@tinscognito__: *chuckles* no you misunderstood, I meant keep your politics out of football. My politics absolutely belong in football
@ElderGrizzly: Woeful judgement from @IpswichTown. It looked bad yesterday when it was just a ‘conference room booking’. This is PR suicide for a family club #itfc
@danieloverett_: I honestly couldn’t care about this reform shite going on.. However we are in a serious battle for promotion and all this will do is cause a divide between fans as well as the club and fans when really we all need to be together for this run in. Timing really poor #ITFC
@Blake_itfc: You don’t have to even dislike reform for this to be a gigantic mistake from the club. It would have been the same for any political party. #itfc
@1KWillG: Nah this is actually horrendous from the club, I don’t care if it’s left or right doing this, politics should be nowhere near the club, marginalising fans by allowing this to happen #itfc
@glencoe1975: @halo @edsheeran @Fleximize how do you feel about Farage in front of your logo. Disgraceful by @IpswichTown @itfchelp promoting Reform. The club is not about politics. Shame on on #itfc for allowing this.
@mjaustin_: Christ alive… and I thought the Charlton home match would be the worst thing seen at Portman Road this season #itfc
@ADClay27: Farage’s banner photo is now him holding up an Ipswich shirt. Club should be embarrassed. Statement needed. Fans have a right to be livid #itfc
@ImmenseITFC: Club should come out and separate themselves from anything political imo. I assume that lot have taken advantage of stadium tours etc and used it as a clever marketing ploy but at the moment it gives the impression of endorsement from #itfc and that can’t happen.
