Nikki Bella is still fighting the clock ahead of WrestleMania 42, and her status for the big event remains up in the air.
Bella suffered an ankle injury during the March 27 episode of WWE SmackDown while teaming with Brie Bella against Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair. After the match, chaos broke out with multiple teams brawling, but Nikki was forced to stay down at ringside while medical staff checked on her.
Since then, WWE has kept fans updated on Raw and SmackDown, noting that Nikki has been rehabbing and working to get cleared in time for WrestleMania 42. The planned match is a four-way Women’s Tag Team Championship bout set for night one on April 18, featuring The Bella Twins, Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair, Bayley and Lyra Valkyria, and The Irresistible Forces.
Despite her efforts to recover, the latest word suggests her return isn’t guaranteed. According to the Wrestling Observer, Nikki’s status is still very much undecided as WrestleMania gets closer.
“Too close to call.”
That short update says a lot about the situation. With WrestleMania just days away, WWE may not know until the last minute whether Nikki will be medically cleared to compete.
If Nikki can’t go, it could force WWE to make a major change to the Women’s Tag Team Championship match on one of the biggest nights of the year. At the same time, fans are still hoping the WWE Hall of Famer can recover in time to join Brie Bella in the match as originally planned.
Right now, everything comes down to Nikki’s recovery and whether doctors clear her before the show.
