“No one talks about…”Gautam Gambhir’s fiery response to the pitch critics ahead of the Bangladesh tests

Gautam Gambhir, the head coach for India, on Wednesday, made it loud and clear to those criticizing Indian pitches for being spin-friendly. In the past years, Indian pitches have gained lots of flak for the quick finishes, sometimes even lasting two or three days. Gambhir told news reporters that very few people raised eyebrows when India’s Test matches in South Africa were completed within 2-3 days.

“If a Test match in South Africa is finished in two days time with enough assistance for fast bowlers; no one talks about that. This argument has to stop because you can’t say Tests end so quickly in India…but then again opposition needs learn how to handle spinners,” he argued during the press conference

Additionally, as far as recent Indian batsmen struggles against classy slow bowling is concerned, this coach brushed them off maintaining that this line-up has sufficient power to counteract anyone else worldwide. Though there are projections indicating that Chepauk surface will be friendly towards spin bowling; but Gambhir does not care much about his batters probable frustrations against Bangladesh’s spin bowling.

Gambhir said this before the two-Test series against Bangladesh while talking to the media, adding that Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have managed to reduce India’s obsession about batting with their bowling quartet.

In response to a question about the line-up’s struggles in last month’s white-ball series against Sri Lanka, especially in the ODI leg which they lost , Gambhir asserted “Our batting unit has so much quality that it can take on any spin unit”.

He went on to add, “ODIs and Tests are two very different formats”.

He also heaped praise on the team’s bowlers

“Once upon a time India was a nation obsessed with batting. But now thanks to Bumrah, Shami, Ashwin and Jadeja it has become a bowlers’ game,” he said.
