Babar Azam’s popularity in Pakistan cricket is unmatched. Among the current players on the Pakistan cricket team, no one has as many fans as Babar Azam. Recently, former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed made a teasing comment to Babar Azam during a Champions Cup 2024 match between Stallions and Dolphins at Iqbal Stadium in Faislabad. Sarfaraz, who was coaching the Dolphins team, was playing in the tournament for the first time in this match.
When Babar went out to bat after his team won the toss and decided to bat first, Sarfaraz teased him while the crowd was chanting “Babar, Babar.”
“No rush, no rush. Just tell them to keep chanting Babar Babar. Let Babar play for 40 overs, and we’ll get the others out,” Sarfaraz’s comment was heard on the microphone near the stumps.
Babar remained calm and scored his first century in the tournament. The Pakistan T20I captain reached 100 runs in 99 balls. He ended with 104 runs off 100 balls, hitting seven boundaries and three sixes.
Babar’s role as the white-ball captain might be coming to an end. Recently, there have been reports suggesting Rizwan as the leading candidate to replace Babar. These reports have caused a mix of reactions from fans and former Pakistan cricket players.
Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali supports Mohammad Rizwan to replace Babar Azam and become the new captain of the Pakistan team.
“Rizwan showed that he is the best leader by how he managed the team. He demonstrated his skills as a captain. He understood the pitch, which is a big deal. Even Babar can’t do that. I’m not even mentioning Shan. If you don’t make him captain now, it’s a loss for Pakistan. This is the perfect time to make Rizwan the captain,” Basit said on his YouTube channel.
