New Zealand survived Jasprit Bumrah’s hard spell and sent India’s attempt to make a twist in the final Day and save the series opener. The visitors slayed the cricketing greats by 8 wickets and ended their 36-year long wait to celebrate Test success in the country.
Even chasing a moderate score of 107 runs on the 5th day against top-level attack can be nerve wrecking, but New Zealanders did that with some initial scares.
Will Young and Rachin Ravindra gave boost to their chase with a partnership of 75 runs for the third wicket, giving their side a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
Indian team will however not be in utter disappointment after the defeat, as they showed courage to bring their game back from the deep ends of getting bowled out for 46 in 1st innings.
Now the side will have to quickly recover from this defeat as the second Test at Pune begins October 24.
Indian team will also have to think deeply about keeping Sarfaraz Khan, as Shubman Gill is sure to make a return after returning from a stiff neck.
The other question will be should the team go back to the three-pacer strategy, or keep the spin bowlers.
