Main-draw competition in Acapulco kicks off on Monday, when seeds Cameron Norrie and Valentin Vacherot take the court. They are going up against Rafael Jodar and Coleman Wong, respectively.

It will be a battle between former college players when Norrie and Jodar collide in round one of the Abierto Mexicano Telcel on Monday night. Jodar, who played last year at the University of Virginia, is already making a name for himself on the pro tour. The 19-year-old Spaniard beat Learner Tien at the 2025 NextGen ATP Finals, reached the second round of the Australian Open as a qualifier, successfully qualified in Dallas, and advanced one round in Delray Beach before losing to Taylor Fritz. He is already up to No. 114 in the world.

Norrie has been in resurgent form over the past year or so following a rough 2024 campaign. The British left-hander is back up to 26th in the rankings and has already picked up a respectable six main-tour match victories in 2026. He has advanced to the quarters (2021), semis (2019), and final (2022) of Acapulco, so his experience at this tournament — and in general — should serve him well against a much younger opponent.

(6) Valentin Vacherot vs. (LL) Coleman Wong

Wong is already on his second life in Acapulco after getting clobbered by Patrick Kypson 6-3, 6-0 in the final round of qualifying on Sunday. It has been a busy stretch of tennis for Wong, who began the month with Davis Cup duty on the indoor hard courts of Hong Kong and then played five matches last week in Delray Beach — where he reached the quarterfinals as a qualifier before falling to Flavio Cobolli.

Up next for the world No. 125 is a first-ever meeting with Vacherot, who definitely has the rest advantage. The world No. 27 from Monaco lost right away in Delray Beach to Alex Michelsen, so he has already had plenty of time in Acapulco to get used to the conditions. This is a great opportunity for Vacherot to advance with relative ease.

Pick: Vacherot in 2
