.The lucknow super giants is planning to keep their West Indies’ Wicket-Keeper Batter Nicholas Pooran and Indian Bowler mayank yadav along with the previously ranked first T20 bowler, oozing Indian talent, raving Bishnoi, IPL 2025. As per an article published by ESPNCricinfo on Monday (October 28), apart from Pooran, Mayank, and Bishnoi, the Lucknow-based franchise will extend its ties with the untapped Indian players ayush badoni and Mohsin khan. Nevertheless, it seems that LSG will not retain KL Rahul who was bought for Rs 17 Crores prior to the 2022 mega auction and has captained the team for the last three seasons, unless both sides have a pensive change of heart in the final moments.
Pooran was bought by LSG for Rs 16 Crores in the IPL 2023 auction and is expected to be the top retention followed by maayank and Bishnoi. Mayank Yadav had his IPL debut in 2024 and performed exceptionally monopolizingly well above 150kms per hour while bowling. However, Mayank being the unfortunate player he is, only managed to play four games in that whole season because he had injuries.
The 22-year-old pacer born in Delhi also got an opportunity to turn into an India player. He made his debut for the Men in Blue during the T20I match against Bangladesh in Gwalior on October 6, 2024, where he took one wicket. So far in his 3 T20I’s, Mayank has grabbed 4 wickets.
The Trinidad and Tobago-born Pooran, who once led the West Indies T20I side, has also played for Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings, and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. In 2024 he has been performing exceedingly well for the franchise. He played for LSG in IPL 2024 where he scored 499 runs and took over the captaincy of the side in the absence of Rahul. The left-handed batsman, holds an astonishing record of scoring the highest number of runs in a calendar year in T20’s and also holds the record for the highest number of sixes.
In contrast, Bishnoi prepped for the IPL 2022 mega auctions and signed with LSG, which has made him the franchise’s all-time highest wicket-taker in the richest franchise cricket league globally.
While the specific figures for the five players remain undisclosed, it can be inferred from the IPL 2025 retention slabs that at least Rs 51 crores will be subtracted from LSG’s allocated budget. Moreover, if the financial compensation offered to the five players goes beyond 51 crores, then the larger sum will be more than 120 crores which is the amount that has been placed in the budget by every franchise for the assembling of the players for IPL 2025.
