Not Saudi Arabia but this Venue to be considered for IPL 2025 mega auction

It has been reported that the 2025 IPL mega auction will take place in Singapore. This is indeed a big update that many would be interested in considering that many have been looking forward to the 2025 IPL auction.

BCCI sources on Wednesday notified that the mega auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is planned for November end or early December. They also added that The Board for Cricket Council of India (BCCI) will issue the norms and the policy concerning the auction in some time.

In the last ten years, the Indian Premier League has conducted two mega auctions, which were separated by a four-year period. The very first auction for franchise players took place in 2014 and the next one held in 2018 saw the return of the suspended for two years, Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings.

In accordance with the various media reports regarding the mega auction, it has been shared with IANS by BCCI insiders that the auction is likely to take place at the end of November or beginning of December. “IPL 2025 auction will take place in November end or early December this year. Rules of it will be out in a couple of days,” BCCI sources told IANS.

It has also been reported, as per Cricbuzz, that the BCCI is considering Singapore to be the hosting city for the IPL auction.

It is also believed that a city in Saudi Arabia is also under consideration, as it is believed that BCCI and IPL officials are currently considering their options.

The next IPL mega sale will most likely be a two-day affair just like the February 2022 auction and the December 2023 and 2024 auctions.

With INR 120 crore set as the auction purse for IPL 2025; the total salary cap is increased to INR 146 crore. Importantly, there is the introduction of a match fee for players joining IPL for the first time which is INR 7.5 lakhs per player.

At this point, it is up to the franchise to decide their combination for Retentions and Right to Match instead of sticking to Indian players or foreign players. However, within the six retentions/RTMs there can only be maximum of five capped players (Indian & Overseas) and maximum of 2 uncapped players.

All foreign players will have to bid at the auctions, and there will be a fine for those who withdraw after they have been picked.

Moreover, Indian players who are capped can still be considered as uncapped players if they have not played any international cricket for five years. The Impact Player rule will still apply for this cycle.
