Harry Brook to the Rescue
England’s day 1 started on the wrong foot against New Zealand, with their top order reduced to 43/4 within 13 overs. Pacers Nathan Smith (4-86), William O’Rourke (3-49), and Matt Henry (2-43) took advantage of the green conditions and ran riot against the English team. Although, Harry Brook had other plans, he played a magnificent innings of 123 off 115, his eighth Test century and second in consecutive innings.
Ollie Pope, who scored a strong 66, Brook added 174 runs for the fifth wicket. Their partnership took England to 124/4 at lunch. After a few meaningful overs, England was bowled out for a total of 280. Despite a depressing start, England was satisfied with Brook’s brilliance and their recovery from early downfall.

Bowler’s Heaven: Green Wellington
The English side who were satisfied with their 280 target, went on to bowl a dominating spell reducing New Zealand to 86/5 at stumps. Despite some early chances, which included the caught-behind review for Kane Williamson, Brydon Carse took key wickets, dismissing Williamson and Daryl Mitchell.
Gus Atkinson and Ben Stokes also struck, with Atkinson dismissing Devon Conway. New Zealand’s innings were demolished further as Rachin Ravindra edged a ball onto his thigh pad, leading to Carse’s one-handed catch. England’s seamers dominated, leaving New Zealand 194 behind with just five wickets in hand.
