New Zealand showed the display of solid play in a do or die clash that handed them a ticket to semifinal of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.  

Defending a total of 111, New Zealand bowlers dominated the field and bundled out Pakistan for 56 to win the game by 54 runs. Their win ended both India and Pakistan’s run in the competition. While New Zealand became the second team, after Australia, to reach semis from Group A.  

Earlier, New Zealand batters also faced a tough time scoring runs, but they somehow managed to post a challenging total.

Opted to bat, New Zealand started their campaign pretty decently as their openers added 41 in 6.3 overs. Georgia Plimmer scored 17 off 14, while her opening partner played a knock 28.  

Despite 50 for 2 after 8.3, the New Zealand side faced a tough time at the middle, as they only managed to add more 60 in the next 69 balls.  

Amelia Kerr 17-ball 9, captain Sophie Devine’s 19 off 25, and Brooke Halliday’s 22 off 24 all of their main batters scored runs at a strike-rate way below 100.  

Nashra Sandhu was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan as she bagged three wickets for 18 after 4 overs. Omaima Sohail, Nida Dar and Sadia Iqbal all grabbed a wicket each.

Pakistan women to chase 111 in 20 overs 

In reply, Pakistan lost half of their side inside the powerplay itself. Captain Fatima Sana did try to rescue, but due to lack of support from other end, she also lost her wicket in pressure.  

Fatima’s 21 was the highest for her team, as Pakistan bowled out for only 56 in a make-or-break game in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 that ended their run in the tournament.  

Amelia Kerr bagged three wickets for 14 in 2.4 overs. Eden Carson also bowled a superb spell of 3-0-7-2.
